Childhood and nostalgia?
For my digital imaging project, I’m taking pictures that represent childhood and nostalgia and the fact the time flies too quickly. Does anyone have some great ideas? I already took pictures of: skates and bicycle, a watch, numerous clocks on a wall, shoes (small to big), swing set, playground, and some random little kids.
When I read the assignment description I immediately saw this picture in my mind:
Setting: an attic or a basement. lots of dust, spider nets, unfinished wood or concrete.
Subject: an old box full of old toys. Not the flashy toys we see today in toys ‘? us, but the old rough wooden or plastic toys, ones we played with a long time ago…. Also dusty and long not played with….
Light: Harsh, very high contrast natural lightning, ideally patches of light coming from the small window in old attic or from top windows in basement. If you can actually see the rays that illuminate the dust – even better. The light is falling from a side or from behind…. Maybe just a tiny tad of fill light, if you can’t expose correctly in natural conditions, but a miserable amount….
Well… That’s how I see it… Hopefully it will help, though I can imagine, that if I was to take this kind of shot – it would’ve taken a lot of time to set-up, unless you have a required box of old toys in a basement waiting for you… And then again the right natural light does not always come when requested…….
