best battery for wall clocks?

Posted under Wall Clocks by admin on Thursday 31 March 2011

What is the best battery brand type for a normal AA wall clock that will last the longest? Price does not matter but the battery must be something I can pick up at a normal store.

I like collecting clocks and have forty seven. The only ones I use are Duracell because the others seem to leak acid and that can destroy my clocks.

can anyone identify this old victorian painting?

I really would like some help identifying a particular painting. I bought it at an antique store for $30. Its a square painting (victorian era?) of a woman in a big white dress in front of an old couch. It appears as though she is knitting. She is facing a large fireplace with a picture (looks like George Washington) on the wall behind her. There is also a tall grandfather clock next to the picture behind her. In the very front bottom left corner of the painting, there is A table with a Teapot on it. Its a little bit eerie, but a very cool painting. There is no artist name on it. I would very much like to find out who painted it, what time frame it was, and what it could be worth, if anything. Thanks so much!
I have a picture of it also, but not sure if i can post it here. If anyone thinks they might know, I can email the picture. Im sure it isnt too valuable, but its very cool to have in the house. Im most interested to find it who the artist is.

It sounds like a nice painting. If you live near a college you can take it in to the art department and see if anyone knows about it. Also, go to allposters.com and type in the description of the painting. They have reprints of hundreds of paintings.

Why does my clock do this?

Posted under Digital Wall Clocks by admin on Sunday 27 March 2011

Okay, I have a wall clock that takes a single AA battery…and I only need to change it every few years.

meanwhile, I have a digital alarm clock that takes a 9v backup battery. i put in anew battery every winter, but by the time we get power back after the first storm, the battery is dead. exactly what in the alarm clock sucks enough power to empty a 9v in just a few weeks? it shouldn’t even be taking power when the clock is plugged in, yet it seems to. so when the clock then actually needs the battery, no power is left.
does anyone know why this is?
I’m about ready to just get a mechanical clock for my alarm and call it good.

LOL. I must have the same clock. When the power goes off, the 9v backup battery only works for one night, then it’s dead. I just rely on my watch. That battery lasts about 3-4 years.

I tried a cheap windup clock. It didn’t keep accurate time, the ticking kept me awake, and the alarm gave me a heart attack.

Talking Clock (Joke)?

Posted under Led Wall Clocks by admin on Friday 25 March 2011

A drunk was proudly showing off his new apartment to a couple of his friends late one night.

He led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass
gong and a mallet.

‘What’s with that big brass gong?’ one of the guests asked.

‘It’s not a gong. It’s a talking clock,’ the drunk replied.

‘A talking clock? Seriously?’ asked his astonished friend.

‘Yup,’ replied the drunk.

‘How’s it work?’ the friend asked, squinting at it.

‘Watch, the drunk replied. He picked up the mallet, gave the gong an ear-shattering pound, and stepped back.

The three stood looking at one another for a moment.

Suddenly, someone on the other side of the wall
screamed,

‘You asshole…it’s three-fifteen in the morning!’

HAHA!!! lol =]

I’m trying to find the title of a book I did a report of no later than may 1982. Children’s /Young Adult?

Posted under Kitchen Wall Clocks by admin on Wednesday 23 March 2011

Horror/suspense. The title may have had the words "minutes" and "midnight" in it, since the tagline was something like "It is ten minutes [to/before/till] midnight." The book is about a girl that comes to stay with a family with children, who are possibly cousins, possibly not (I don’t recall) in a house with a grandfather clock that’s broken, but has its hands showing 10? minutes to midnight at first.

As the book progresses, a bleakness, reflected in the weather, which grows chillier and cloudier/rainier, pervades the house; strange, increasingly unsettling things happen; and the hands of the clock slowly move toward midnight.

Also, there are four blurred waxy marks on the kitchen wall that slowly resolve themselves into letters as the book progresses, finally spelling out the word "SOON."

I don’t remember what happens next, but the book ends with a new couple buying the house on a sunny day, the clock with its hands way away from midnight now.

A little out there, but perhaps any teachers or other bookworms will be able to help. Or anyone who’s never moved and lost their books. Thanks!

Could it be "Three Minutes to Midnight" by Mildred Davis?
