I really would like some help identifying a particular painting. I bought it at an antique store for $30. Its a square painting (victorian era?) of a woman in a big white dress in front of an old couch. It appears as though she is knitting. She is facing a large fireplace with a picture (looks like George Washington) on the wall behind her. There is also a tall grandfather clock next to the picture behind her. In the very front bottom left corner of the painting, there is A table with a Teapot on it. Its a little bit eerie, but a very cool painting. There is no artist name on it. I would very much like to find out who painted it, what time frame it was, and what it could be worth, if anything. Thanks so much!
I have a picture of it also, but not sure if i can post it here. If anyone thinks they might know, I can email the picture. Im sure it isnt too valuable, but its very cool to have in the house. Im most interested to find it who the artist is.

It sounds like a nice painting. If you live near a college you can take it in to the art department and see if anyone knows about it. Also, go to allposters.com and type in the description of the painting. They have reprints of hundreds of paintings.

The sun didn’t shine down through my window like it would every morning. Instead, a gray light shone through bouncing off my bedroom walls. It looked like it was going to rain, but that was the least of my worries. This week had been hard. Lots of things were happening here and there. Things that I didn’t want to believe. I looked at my clock it was 10 in the morning. Last night had been rough, – actually every night this week- nightmares took over my sleep, and my eyes were numb from crying. My family left me, for a better place – well at least I hoped.
It was that afternoon, when my father told my mother, my younger brother and I that we would go out to dinner soon, where they would leave me alone in this world. I wondered what special occasion it was – only to find out later that my father had quit his old job and had found a new one. My father worked for the government. It was quite a load on his life. After all, he was fifty-two when he decided to quit. He decided to keep an antique shop since he thought we had reserved enough money to live on if the shop didn’t make a profit. My mother on the other hand was a social worker so she stayed home most of the time.
It was about eight in the afternoon when my father announced that we would go out for dinner. My younger brother’s cherubic face shined with excitement.
“Where are we going dad?” my brother jumpily asked, after all he was only five.
“Somewhere special (brother’s name)” dad said as he picked up (brother’s name) and swung him around.
The only thing running through my mind was ‘how was I going to finish studying for my midterm?’
“Dad I can’t go”
“Well why not Kristen?”
“I have to study for my midterms”
“Well you’ll have time for that later”
“Bu –“
“(says father’s name) let her study! We can bring her dinner but not a good grade.” My mother said abruptly. “Okay Kristen” she continued “well be at uncle Fray’s restaurant” I stared at my fathers face. Uncle Fray wasn’t actually my uncle, he used to be my father’s roommate in college, and his restaurant was two cities away. “Call us if you need anything, we’ll bring you back some dinner” she continued to say as she kissed the top of my head and prepared to leave.
“bye mom”
“bye hun”

I waved as they got in the car and drove away. For some reason I had felt sad that they were leaving.
Great. I was going to be in the house, alone, for at least four hours. Isolation was something that I wasn’t good at coping with. As soon as I shut the front door and sat down to study, the isolation began to creep in. This time it was a different feeling like isolation had brought a friend along with it, fear.

sorry for the grammer mistakes if you want to let me know on how i can make it more interesting just tell me XD im not done il keep adding mor though :]
i’m a really bad speller :/ please no hat ecomments please :]?
ps: i havent came up with some character names so ignore the (father’s name) and (brother’s name)
haha ray thats xactly what i was going to do

WELL I TINK IT NEEDS SUM WORK XD

No, but reallly. Don’t say no hate, you asked for critique.

It needs some grammar correction, spelling correction as well.

say as she kissed the top of my head and prepared to leave.
“bye mom”
“bye hun”

-Capitalize Bye, and add commas.

Additional Details
i’m a really bad speller

That doesn’t matter, fix it.

I looked at my clock it was 10 in the morning. Last night had been rough, – actually every night this week- nightmares took over my sleep, and my eyes were numb from crying. My family left me, for a better place – well at least I hoped.

Show don’t tell, and remove correct measurements. Perhaps you should say late, early morning.

around.
The only thing running through my mind was ‘how was I going to finish studying for my midterm?’
“Dad I can’t go”
“Well why not Kristen?”
“I have to study for my midterms”
“Well you’ll have time for that later”
“Bu –“

This conversation seems not as realistic as it was made to be. Instead of saying what was running, show it:

My mind plummeted into a field of worry. How am I going to finish studying for midterm?

This time it was a different feeling like isolation had brought a friend along with it, fear.

This seems awkward and you use the same word over and over in this paragraph: isolation.

It was about eight in the afternoon when my father announced that we would go out for dinner. My younger brother’s cherubic face shined with excitement.

Instead of telling- have him announce it.

Also you keep saying brothers name, and only brothers name. How about: my brother, for a bit?

With the xD I assume you are under 16, that’s normal. Your writing seems interesting, but dull. Brush it up.

I just went through this and made major improvements. So how good is it and how can I improve it again. I also did my best because I am only 12 year old girl. I did what I know. So how can it be improved if in any way at all?

                                     Chapter One: My New School
It was a very nerve wracking, stomach turning day for me because it is my first day at a new school. I have sweat pouring out of my long, brown, wavy hair and showing through my new outfit. A close fitted T-shirt with extravagant details and a pair of jean shorts matched with a pair of flip flops on my feet. I walked to the large bathroom mirror one more time to make shure I looked okay. So now I am done fixing my clothes in the mirror and now I have to rush down the long set stairs because I as running a little late. I glided gracefully out the antique door and hopped into my old, banged up, red truck. I got my truck cheap, you see, after working a double shift everyday over the summer. I put the keys in the ignition and now going what feels like 100 miles per and hour. It might have been my heart that made me feel that, but you never know when it comes down to me. I parked my car in an empty parking space and took off towards the small school. I entered through the old doors of the school, schedule in hand, going to homeroom. I walked in nervously and saw a boy with blonde hair and big brown eyes. It wasn’t his looks that has attracted me to him, it was just something about how he held himself like he has some sort of secret no one can know. I walked up to the teacher unwillingly. "Hi! Where is my seat Ma’am?", I blurted out like a fool. "Right by Justin Sparks there. The boy with the blonde hair and brown eyes." she replied sweetly in a tone that freaked me out. My first thought was, perfect. I decided I would get to know more about him by asking questions. "So how are you?" I said blandly. "I’m fine. How about you, new girl?" he asked curiously. "I’m great. So tell me a little bit about you." I said blandly again, but with curiosity. "I have no brothers or sisters, only my parents Lizzie and James. My favorite color is blue, like your eyes are." he said happily answering me. The bell just rang so I couldn’t tell him anything about me. I feel guilty. "See you later" we said at the same time. I walked out of the room and into the not so crowded hallway. I took a quick peek at my schedule and hurried to my next class. I walked to the teacher, again nervously. "Hi! Where is my seat?" He just pointed at the chair and I sat down without a second thought about it. I just can’t wait until the school day is over today.
Chapter Two: Disappointment
After school was over and I was home safely I was very disappointed. I didn’t see Justin for the rest of the day. Tonight I hope to dream about him and what it would be like to see his secretive self again. I walked up the stairs carefully making shure not to trip and fall all the way to the hallway that leads to my huge bedroom. My bedroom has brown walls, like the color of Justin’s eyes, and fancy curtains hanging over the windows. My bed is in the corner neatly made with brown covers. I walked quickly to the dresser and put on my white lace night gown. I also know it is quite a bit early for sleeping, but I just want to dream about him and nothing else. I carefully pulled out the covers from under the pillow and pulled them over me. I closed my eyes and counted to 100. I fell asleep 5 minutes later. "Beep Beep, Beep Beep" my alarm clock was literally screaming. I groaned and went to go wake my mom Renee also. She was already awake when I walked into the room. So I turned around and walked down the stairs slowly. I grabbed the box that contains my favorite cereal, pops. I poured it into the plastic bowl I had grabbed form the cabinet and added some skim milk. I ate it quickly and hungrily knowing I wouldn’t want to be late for school.

Great! It could be slowed down down a little bit, and the flow is a bit awkward, but its great. There’s a couple things bothering me though… First, I have no idea what the main character’s name is. Second, don’t you think she’s being kind of obsessive over this guy she just met…? I mean, unless you want the story to be about how this obsessive girl ruins some poor guys life you may want to consider changing that…. Also the beat up red truck, and mother named Renee kinda makes me think of Twilight…. Although I did like the mention of how she got the truck that was pretty good . I like the fact that you had Justin flirt with her a little with the favorite color associated in with her eyes. Perhaps she could start the conversation with shyly introducing herself, you don’t want her to be so unenthusiastic, introductions between main characters are pretty important, and if during the beginning of the book, will show a lot about the character. For example, I slid smoothly into the desk, I picked absent minded at a hangnail, while eye balling this Justin character from a sideways view, he caught my eye for a moment and I hastily went back to my hangnail, moments later though I slowly took a peak to the side to find him smiling cockily at my, wearing an amused expression. "So who might you be?" he inquired. "INSERT NAME HERE," I murmured quietly, barely loud enough for him to here. Just by doing this you really do add some personality, By giving Justin a cocky smile and amused expression you feel that the character seems very sure of themselves, by having him strike up a conversation with the girl staring nervously (She’ll tend to have a more nervous feel to her at the moment if you make fiddle with something like a hangnail) at him you figure out that he’s friendly enough. Also when maincharacterwithnoname asks Justin to tell her more about him, either add more info about him or chose one piece of info, it’s kind of weird to have him tell her something about his parents before slipping in some flirting (On this note, you really should emphasize on what her reaction is)… Also, her room doesn’t need to be described quite so much, readers aren’t intrested in the room, they’re interested in what’s going to happen in the story. Shorten it to a single easy flowing sentence. Ex. I entered my room, it had brown walls, matching lacy curtains, a simple desk, books shelf and small music system on one side of the room, a neatly made bed with matching brown curtains (I love the fact that you added in that the girl is neat, perhaps in a way this could form in to a flaw of sorts? She could be very particular about cleanliness. To mix in with it, perhaps Justin could be very messy, which bothers her).

since i was a little kid i’ve been obsessed with the 1940′s, the music, the clothing, the movies, so i am doing my room up in a 1940′s/50′s style.
i am planning to paint the walls a pastel yellow colour, like lemony. and i am getting a beautiful antique white and gold desk from the antique shop.
i am planning to get a white wardrobe with glass in the front, so i can display some dresses and netted curtains from the panes of glass.
i have china figurines, old perfume bottles, antique mirrors, black and white photoes, a gold clock and a wireless and a collection of reccords and a reccord player.
and i am planning on getting floral curtains.

do you think this is a good idea?
what flooring colour would you get?
what bedspread colour/design should i get?
what type of bed would oyu get? (has to be single)
what other things can i add?

For flooring, I would suggest a glossy marble or porcelain tile or hardwood & then get an art deco style area rug. This is very vintage style & it’s becoming popular again.

http://www.homedecorators.com/Rugs/style/172/Transitional_Rugs/

For bedding, I would get something glamorous but – like one of these:
If you watch old movies, you’ll notice that they didn’t have comforters back in the day – they had beadspreads & quilts. So if you want to be totally authentic, go with something like one of these:

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Toscana-Taupe-Bedspread-and-Shams-Set/2681869/product.html

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Shelbourne-Bedspread-Quilt-Set/2561460/product.html

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Moroccan-Quilt-Set-Eucalyptus/2022799/product.html

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Claret-Embroidered-Quilt-Set/735508/product.html

I think I would choose a metal frame bed, like one of these:

http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Morgan_Bed_Set/210/

http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Marta_Bed_Set/310/

http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Wendall_Bed_Set/210/

http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Vancouver_Bed_Set/830/

Vintage posters would look cool:

http://homedecorators30.artselect.com/perl/search?sortType=MostRelevant&t=b-c5010&openct10171=5010&alt=Vintage

These paintings by Jack Vettriano & Edward Hopper are cool, too:

http://homedecorators30.artselect.com/perl/frArtistByLastName?letter=V&artist=Jack+Vettriano&t=a

http://homedecorators30.artselect.com/perl/frArtistByLastName?letter=H&artist=Edward+Hopper&t=a

And a vintage-style phone:

http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Vancouver_Bed_Set/830/

Maybe a Tiffany-style lamp:

http://www.homedecorators.com/Lighting/Table_Lamps/Lamps/#paging=1&filters=Tiffany-style&pr=none

Okay, I was having trouble with this ghost or demon. I don’t know what it is, this is the problem. If it is a ghost, ill leave it alone.. If it’s a Demon, i’m gonna seek help.

So i went to go into my kitchen one night, and the light bulb blew. I backed up away from it and turned tword a mirror, and I seen a girl, with pitch black eyes, an antique shade of brown tunic and pale skin. She was just staring at me. I didn’t sleep that night.

Months later, me and a buddy were in my basement playing pool. Then tiny metal washers were being tossed at both of us.

And just recently a clock that was hanging on our wall for like 7 years fell all on its own. I cannot explane this whatsoever.

I’m a rational person, and i could not debunk any of these. Honestly, I’m afriade for my life.

Please help.

Thank You
Okay, after reading some answers. I’d like to note that I am a Christian, I checked the clock and there was no logical explaination, and i set the washers on a table and they flew off from there. * And washers are not to be confused with the thing you wash clothes in, but the little metal ring.

(And Grammer is not comparible with being rational dumbass.)
Sorry we can’t all be "Linda M"

Demons dont usually take human forms…but either way u should seek help.

The sounds of summer surround the atmosphere in the backyard of my house in Lowell. There is a shabby, old swing set left from the people who had owned this house before us. The hinges are rusty, the swing seats are cracking, and bee’s nests adorn the underside of the slide. A scent of the city is unmistakable and mixed with the smell of pear tree and cut grass. The sky is a perfect shade of light blue with very few clouds. I feel a slight breeze wisp around and whisper my name.

Maxi boy sits beside his large dog house as he protects our yard. The large, stereotypical red food bowl with his name printed in yellow is placed in the front of the house and is filled to the brim every morning. Father lounges outside on a white lawn chair and tosses Maxi boy’s rubber cheeseburger across the lawn towards the neighbor’s tomato garden. Mom is inside cleaning the antique two floor house. The floors creak, dust is collecting everywhere, and some of the furniture is older than my parents, but this is still our ideal home.

A young woman whose name I can never seem to remember lives next door and teaches music. The hundreds of instruments all play at once in a symphony of sounds that one might consider, “useless noise”. I always visit her house at the same time each week where we drink cool lemonade and she plays an accordion one week, a guitar the next, a piano the week after that, and so on. She is my inspiration to sing and learn piano, yet I still don’t remember her name no matter how hard I try. I can only remember her many instruments, her long, curly, and dark hair, and her pale white skin.

My parents are both so young and beautiful, but I see right through the façade. My Mom and I are so alike physically and my Father and I are alike personality-wise. Mom steps out of my view and appears from the old white steps on the side of her house. Her blonde, curly hair bounces around her freckle face. She hands my father a glass of water and runs her fingers through his short, dark hair and smiles her pearly white smile at him. I always notice that her teeth are a little crooked, just like mine.

Father attempts a smile of his own, but I can tell that he is worried. He’s always worried for a reason I’m not sure, and Mom has always been light and easy-going. Mom notices his worry, and I can see hurt pierce her luminescent blue eyes. She touches his pale face and beckons to me. I ignore his anxiety and her sadness and jump off of the rusty swing set to follow Mom into the ancient house.

“Cheyenne, what do you want for lunch?”, Mom asks as we enter the kitchen.

The floor has a small white tiling that is cracking and the walls are peeling wallpaper. A vintage radio player sits on a table to the right of the door and the counters are to the left by the fridge and the oil stove. I can hear chirping coming from the vent above the stove and so I discover a bird’s nest caught behind the vent. Mom wants to make lunch, probably something on the stove. I gasp and realize that I will have to set up several birdie funerals if she does.

“Mom, could you maybe not cook today? There are birds in there.”

I point quickly to the vent and jump up and down. Mom smiles and replies, “Alright Honey. I’ll make sandwiches. Go get your bathing suit on upstairs. I put it on your bed.”

I smile back and say, “Okay Mom! Thanks!”

We had just gotten a kiddy pool yesterday and I picked the colorful fish pattern. Running out of the kitchen excitedly, I make my way towards the front of the house, and up the chipped stairs. I can’t even count how many times I have gotten a sliver on these same stairs. Not that I can count that much at all, at least not past twenty.

When I finally reach the top of the stairs, a grandfather clock is against the sand colored wall staring at me. I shudder and run down the hallway into my small bedroom. The rugs that were once white are now gray and the bureau that was once shiny and new is now dull and old. My favorite bathing suit is on the cot across the room. I have a Lion King sleeping bag as my comforter and an Aladdin pillow. Taking the bathing suit, I prance back down the hallway into the bathroom and close the door behind me.

I wash the dirt off of my hands from the swing set and stand on my tip-toes to check for dirt on my face in the circular mirror. I have hair and skin like my Mom and eyes like my father, a peculiar type of golden brown. With my blue polka dot hand me down bathing suit on I slowly make my way down the hazardous stairs and skip into the kitchen with a huge smile on my face. My bologna and cheese sandwich sits delicately on my favorite green dinosaur plate. Just as I’m about to bite, the familiar ring of the house phone sounds and I sneak into the living room to pick up the phone while Mom comes into the house to answer the other one in the kitchen.

The phone is a dull yellow and has little Blue’s Clues stickers on it from the coloring book I got for
oops! yahoo cut my story off! (: if anyone wants the rest i can send it via email! thanks ! (:
i never told you to tell me what you like because i don’t give a shit. i said to help with my writing skills. dumbass.

Wow! I really like it. Using first person is ok as long as you don’t use it too much, and this isn’t too long haha stories are like 700 pages long sometimes. One of the things that I really liked was how it just gave you such a calm feeling, and the words you used were very descriptive. I actually loved it a lot! One thing that you could change but don’t really have to is

There is a shabby, old swing set left from the previous owners.

But like I said, its not a big deal and you can keep it how you have it if you want. Other than that theres nothing I really would correct. You use very descriptive words which brings the story to life. If you could email it to me that would be great.

Also if you would like, there is a site that I am currently a part of . It is called www.writerfriendly.webs.com it is a site with tons of authors and you can get advice, tips, edits and more for you story ideas, chapters etc. I’ve found it very useful to me and we would love to have you if you would like to sign up. Its free and quick.

Good luck on the story, I love it ;]

I know a bedroom is supposed to feel calm, serene, sanctuarial etc. But right now it just feels blah. It’s clean, clutter-free, but I feel it’s missing something…

The room has a vaulted ceiling and a ceiling fan. The walls are white (I like to keep them white). There are two medium-sized rectangular windows on the left wall. Beige carpet. The frame and headboard of the bed are wood painted solid black, with very clean, modern lines. My sheets are gray, beneath a silk, light tea-green duvet with small off-white abstract florals (and matching pillows). Two black, round, wooden modern nightstands on either side of my queen bed, one with a modern white cylindrical lamp, and the other a Sharper Image alarm clock-soother. A large, round, scalloped antique silver mirror across from the bed to the side; an upholstered accent chair with large black-white abstract florals, by the windows; and a basic black coat rack in the corner of that wall and the back wall.

I feel like the back wall may need something (ie above the headboard), but I’m not sure.

Suggestions?

My Dream House

My dream house will be a masterpiece, full of beauty. It will contain a grand family room, a gorgeous dining room, connected to a stainless steal appliance kitchen and the master suite, which will be my favorite room.

My family room is grand. My brick fireplace, placed in from of my comfy cream rap round couch. Above my fireplace, hanging on the cream colored wall is a forty-inch Samsung flat screen TV. In the corner of the family room is my blue fluffy and comfy recliner, which was bought for my father when he comes to visit. The best thing about this room is the popcorn Machine, you can pop some popcorn before you watch a movie and then you can sit down with a big bowl of it. Connected to my flat screen is my V.C.R my D.V.D player and my movie projector. This allows us to play any type of movie, at any given time. The speakers built into the walls, and underneath the couch allows the surround sound to shake the house and to invite you into whatever movie you are watching. The flooring of the family room is a oak hardwood, with brown and beige area rugs, which I would place in front of the couch. On the left wall there is a window about three feet by three feet, with beige, cream, and brown curtains. This window allows just enough light in to lighten up the room. My family room will feel welcoming as soon as I open up the front door to let you in, you will feel warm, and comforted by the love my home will bring.

My gorgeous dining area is a romantic place to eat, while it contains a beautiful chandelier above the chestnut ding table, which can place up to eight people. Most of the light comes from an enormous six-foot window with cherry red curtains, which is located at the fare end of the room, facing the back yard. My old faded chestnut grandfather clock was bought from an antique auction; I placed it opposite of the archway in, which you come into the dining room from the kitchen. The kitchen is a fun stainless steal appliance kitchen with stainless steal counters too. The details in my kitchen will be extravagant with hand towels having pictures of apples on them, and my fridge even having apple shaped magnets. The cream tiled flooring is heated throughout, so when you making a pot of coffee in the morning your little toes will still stay warm. The best thing about my kitchen will be the window above the sink with curtains that contain apples on it. But if you don’t want to take your time to decorate and set up the table in the dining room you can just sit down and enjoy dinner, lunch, breakfast, in your kitchen at you finished oak table that holds a family of four, and the lighting overhead is a ceiling fan with an oak finish and energy conserved lights.
The master suite is full of relaxing in my Jacuzzi and lighting the fireplace to enjoy a warm bathroom. In my master bathroom I have heated cream tiled floors with light blue area rugs. There are no windows in my bathroom because my bathroom is all-full of privacy. The fireplace in my bathroom is wonderful; it is one of the ways it keeps my bathroom warm in the winter. The toilet and shower are on the same wall, and my Jacuzzi is right on the other side of the wall, which contain s the two bathroom sinks and gigantic mirror in which I placed a light fixture above. My bed is right there too the best thing is, is that you can locate my bathroom from the hallway and my bedroom. So, my bed is king sized with oak finished nightstand, dresser, and the frame for my bed. While I lay there at night I can watch TV on the flat screen, and listen with my surround sound. My fireplace is placed right under my flat screen, and my cream area rug right in front of that. The lighting in my room are the lamps, and the ceiling light. They are LED so then I can save a little money and have a brighter room.
So I think that the master suite is my favorite place to be, cuddled up in my covers all day long with a fire going and watching TV with Tivo. My dream house will be the best place to be and I will love it forever, since its what I have always dreamed of.

let me know what i need to correct, and what is good, tell me what to redo and how to fix. and let me know whether or not the conclusion is long enough. and whether or not the pareagraghs are good. i am a freshman in high school. so help me if you can please:)

This sloppy copy sounds perfect!!! There are 3 things you need to fix though. In the second paragraph, there is a sentence that says: "My brick fireplace, placed in from of my comfy cream rap around couch." From needs to be front. The second thing is that in your third paragraph, it says somewhere about your popcorn machine. Well, there is a comma in there that needs to be a period. Last thing, somewhere you said ding, when it needs to be dining. Your welcome for the help!!!
