LED Hard Drive Clock Demo

Posted under Led Wall Clocks by admin on Friday 20 November 2009

This is a hard drive clock I built from a 3.5″ hard drive, some tri-color LEDs and a PIC16F252 microcontroller. It works by shining the LEDs underneath a platter with a slot cut into it, and by timing the various colors it can produce an analog clock display as well as other patterns.

I got the idea from this page:
http://alan-parekh.com/projects/hard-drive-clock/

And here is my page with more details:

  17. Don’t ur LEDs wear …
Don’t ur LEDs wear out quick as hell? I mean lumi-and color changes all the time. And for about a max of 90hz changes (as your HDD rotates about 90x a second). Which means with complex imagery they could turn on and off about 90x per second…

Better buy some high quality LEDs for this project.
