This is a hard drive clock I built from a 3.5″ hard drive, some tri-color LEDs and a PIC16F252 microcontroller. It works by shining the LEDs underneath a platter with a slot cut into it, and by timing the various colors it can produce an analog clock display as well as other patterns.

Don’t ur LEDs wear out quick as hell? I mean lumi-and color changes all the time. And for about a max of 90hz changes (as your HDD rotates about 90x a second). Which means with complex imagery they could turn on and off about 90x per second…
Better buy some high quality LEDs for this project.
